1. Can you certify a copy of a birth certificate or Diploma?

A notary public has no authority to certify a copy of a public record, a publicly recorded document, a birth certificate, a school record or diploma, a professional license, or any other public or private document or record which does not pertain to the notary public's official acts. 2. Do I need a social security number to have a document notarized remotely?

Yes. a US Social Security number is required to complete knowledge based authentication. This verification is provided within the platform and is not accessible to the notary. The verification entails answering a combination of 5 public record questions about your identity that you would know. You have 2 minutes to answer the questions and may not receive assistance. If the KBA questions are failed on 2 occasions, you will need to wait 24 hours to try again.

3. My ID is expired, can I have my document notarized?
